This weekend we went away with our church on a weekend retreat. We stayed in a little cabin (which the kids loved) and ate in a cafeteria (good food, I might add) and enjoyed several workshops throughout the day. We stayed up late playing games in a giant sitting room, had a talent show, whoever wanted to watched a movie and there was even a game of glow-in-the-dark ultimate frisbee (for those who were brave enough). Programs for the kids and family games of soccer and an outdoor scavenger hunt during the day.
A highlight of the weekend for me was when S and her dad did a duet. They sang "Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter" by Heman's Hermits. It amazes me for a few reasons. For one, I'm not really great at getting up in front of crowds. Even though I can be silly and loud sometimes, I still don't like having everyone focus their attention on me. And she manages to do it so well. She manages to get up there in front of everyone and confidently sing with a clear, beautiful voice. And that brings me to the other thing. She has a beautiful voice. It amazes me! It makes me so happy that she gets to share in the love of music with her dad. I didn't tape it myself, but I'm hoping that somebody did. If not, I still have a rather vivid memory of it and that certainly makes me smile!
P.S. On the drive home when we were talking about our weekend, Jason reminded me that S actually learned the parts to this song from her Alvin and the Chipmunks cd. One day when Jason was playing it on the piano she just sat down and started singing them with him. :)

Awww...that is just precious Brenna. What a treat to watch her singing with her daddy!
